BSW Timber Systems & Alouette Homes Agrees Collaboration
UK / Canadian Collaboration Consolidates with £3.3 Million "Super E" Contract for Berkeley Homes
The sale of Alouette's Super E in the UK is a collaboration between BSW Timber Systems and Alouette Homes. BSW Timber Systems is 100% owned by BSW Timber plc, the UK's largest sawmilling business.
BSW Timber Systems will use the acclaimed 'Super E' timber engineering technology developed in Canada as an innovative method for building energy efficient and high quality housing.
The two companies are already collaborating on a contract worth £3.3 million to supply the Super E system for the first phase of the prestigious Berkeley Homes housing project in Holborough.
BSW Timber Systems is one of the south of England's leading timber engineering companies and is a wholly owned subsidiary of BSW Timber plc, the UK's largest sawmilling group. The company fabricates engineered floor and roof systems and manages the design, importation, supply, approvals and technical back up of the Super E system to provide a seamless service for clients.
Quebec-based Alouette International Homes, founded in 1971, is an industry leader with over four years experience in the UK. Alouette were the first company to supply Super E and are today the major supplier of Super E technology to the UK and continental Europe.
Welcoming the formal announcement, Norman Gore, Technical Director of BSW Timber Systems, says: "BSW Timber Systems and Alouette Homes are the first companies in their respective fields to form a close collaboration of this nature. This collaboration brings together two companies with an unbeatable track record in the building sector, together with a high-quality building system in Super E.
“BSW Timber Systems has a long history of bringing innovative design solutions to the industry, supported by a commitment to sustainability, service and quality. Alouette Homes has an unrivalled track record in supplying innovative quality panelised wall and floor systems, both in the North American and European markets.
“Together we are embarking on a collaboration that will not only have a positive impact on the development of both our businesses, but will also have immense benefit to the UK's building industry. Moreover, we will be using our collective talents to bring the Super E system to the UK marketplace, a product that offers unmatched environmental, technological and economic benefits to the end consumer."
BSW Timber Systems and Alouette have been working together on the Berkeley Homes development in Holborough since 2004, with the first units arriving on site in March 2005. The first phase of this prestigious project will provide Super E system for 147 family homes and apartments over an 18-month period.
Speaking about the deal, Nigel Tompsett Commercial Director of Berkeley Homes South East London adds "The Holborough project is a high quality development offering a new level of comfort and building design for the consumer.
"This presents the ideal opportunity to work with BSW Timber Systems to take home building on to a new level, offering superb environmental performance at affordable end prices to the consumer. This is very much the start of things to come."
Using leading edge construction technology, the highly efficient houses provide a range of benefits which include lower energy bills, reduced environmental impact, external noise reduction and improved control over odours and humidity. The houses also exceed local housing standards and regulations - including the 2006 part L requirements.
The Alouette timber panelised walls will be built off-site in Canada, in ideal assembly conditions with windows insulation and vapour barriers installed, before being shipped to the UK. Additional technical features of the Super E system include increased insulation levels, advanced window technology, minimal air leakage, an entire house ventilation system and rain and moisture control.
